In 1983 as a young man Rocky had a dream of turning part of his grandfather's farm into a mobile home park. He took the plunge of faith and began construction in the winter of 1982. By April of 1983 Crepemyrtle was open for business. Rocky then went on to get a job as a mobile home salesman, bought himself and his family a mobile home, and moved into the park. He lived on lot 49 and managed the park. A year later he again took the plunge and opened his own manufactured housing dealership, Bayou Housing Inc. He operated Bayou Housing until February 1998 when it was sold to Clayton homes. It is still in operation today.
During his tenure as a manufactured housing retailer, Rocky served as chapter president of the Louisiana Manufactured Association, served on the board of directors, was elected state president and later became a delegate to the Manufactured Housing Institute in Washington DC, representing Louisiana dealers on the national level. It was under Rocky's leadership along with help from the entire industry, that sales tax was removed from the sale of used homes. After his retirement Rocky remained on the board of directors representing Mobile homes parks in Louisiana and was inducted into the Louisiana Manufactured Housing Association Hall of Fame. His dealership won numerous awards, including the number one dealer in the United States for Southern Lifestyle Homes, a division of Southern Energy, now owned by Clayton.
Rocky's mobile home career spans 4 decades and during that time he has owned, operated and been involved with Crepemyrtle's day to day operations. The park is not owned by an investment group or absentee owner but rather by a man that has dedicated his life's work to manufactured homes and their owners.
